With asset management, those who work in refineries or petrochemical complexes need to pay more attention to control valves. As an integral part of plant operations, control valves are critical to ensure proper, continuous, and efficient plant operations.
Since control valve data is driven by process data, the chosen solution determines the ramp up rate and performance of the plant.
Replacing failed parts that are critical to control valves is expensive, but not nearly as pricey as the total cost of lost production encountered during downtime to replace these parts.
Knowing the control valves’ wellbeing in real time along with being able to predict impending failure is important. Having this capability enables you to preemptively address primary unexpected emergency downtime that could potentially cause
catastrophic accidents. This information allows you to optimize scheduled shutdown for equipment repair and reconstruction.
Since the shutdown is planned, overall loss can be minimized, allowing adequate time for accurate budget planning and prioritization of spare parts pre-purchased according to the criticality of control valves.
While the best fit control valve design solution is vital to allow successful unit operation, a prognostic control valve health-monitoring system will allow preemptive actions, preventing major problems down the road!

We just opened up a bunch of new training opportunities throughout the summer! Read more about them below.
Eastern Controls’ training program for maintenance technicians and engineers has proven to be a huge success since its inception in 2016. With a large variety of courses covering a wide swath of industries, you won’t find any other manufacturing representative with the level of training gained through the use of our PTU (Process Training Unit).
The PTU is a fully-functioning two-story process skid with a variety of products replicating an actual real-world process plant. Incorporating this useful tool within our training program allows attendees to get hands-on!

Control Valve – Advanced
This advanced level control valve training course exposes attendees to a variety of control valve settings, testing, and inspection processes with plenty of hands-on learning within ECI’s shop and the PTU!
Coriolis Mass Flow
This course provides maintenance and engineering professionals with a basic understanding of the Coriolis principle, focusing on an in-depth training on density and concentration measurements.
This introductory course provides entry-level maintenance and engineering professionals with an understanding of instrumentation technologies, terminology, and symbols needed to work in the field.

Reducing Inlet Air Temperature in Gas Turbines
What methods are used for gas inlet air cooling? Read on to find out!
Ambient temperature has the biggest impact on the output and efficiency of a gas turbine. The higher the ambient temperature the lower the density of air causing a reduction in mass flow.
The two most common types of gas inlet air cooling are chilling and evaporative. These two methods help improve gas turbine performance during hot summers. When using chilling to reduce inlet air temperature below dew point temperature, mechanical chillers are used to provide relatively cool air below ambient air dew point with consistency at the gas turbine inlet. It utilizes electrical power which may add in station auxiliary load noticeably subsequently may impact on the heat rate.
There are two methods of evaporative cooling of gas turbine inlet air; the evaporative coolers and the fogging. In fogging special designed fog nozzles in combination of very high-pressure supply pumps, are used.
Fog nozzles are designed very carefully to atomize water drops to a sub-micron level in order to achieve a very fast rate of evaporation. In evaporative coolers, which consist of a media followed by a drift eliminator, water is sprayed over the special media which becomes wet and air flows through honeycomb passages where the water is evaporated from within. Cooled air then passes through the drift eliminators to separate suspended water droplets from air to avoid carryover to the compressor.
It is suggested to use evaporative coolers in regions with dry atmospheres because of their high reliability and effectiveness. For more information on gas turbines and how to reduce their inlet air temperature, click here.

The Cloud gives plant operators a clear overview of the condition of their actuators and valves, easily detecting any excessive loads. If a more detailed analysis is required, actuator data can be sent from the Cloud to AUMA Services for remote diagnostics which reduces costs compared to on-site service.
AUMA Assistant App
The AUMA Assistant App allows fast and easy configuration of the AUMA actuators from a smartphone or tablet. Users can set all the actuator’s operating parameters via the app, saving considerable time and cost during commissioning.
Plant Operators can send settings and diagnostic data directly from the app to AUMA’s Service department, shortening the time for troubleshooting and remedial action!
