Company History

Eastern Controls’ Company Founders
Founded in 1969, Eastern Controls, Inc. opened its first sales office outside of Philadelphia as a manufacturer’s representative for Masoneilan, a major manufacturer of process control valves and instrumentation. In the following years, the company signed on as representative to several other prominent manufacturers of process control equipment and expanded its sales force accordingly.
In 1978, having established a significant sales presence in the Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, DC areas, the company opened a second sales office in Towson, Maryland. A third sales office opened in 1987 in northern New Jersey to cover the greater New York Metropolitan area. By 1980, with its reputation firmly established as the leading manufacturer’s representative for process control equipment in its territory, Eastern Controls continued to attract other major manufacturing firms looking for the best possible sales channel.
Propelled by the continued growth of its business in the 1990s, Eastern Controls found itself in need of more space for its offices, warehousing, and service and repair capabilities. In 1997, ECI relocated to its current location in Edgemont, Pennsylvania, which offers 33,000 square feet of space and ample room for continued expansion. ECI’s strong relationships with its early principals are the bedrock of ECI’s success and the company has continued to build alliances with other manufacturers in order to offer the marketplace a highly diverse and complementary line of process control and instrumentation equipment.
In late 2008 the company began a major overhaul of its service & repair facilities. Upgrades included the addition of a machine shop, a fully-automated Media Blasting Center, enhanced painting booths, and new specialized individual workstations. These enhancements along with our strong commitment to quality control continue the company’s commitment to being the leading-edge, full-service supplier in our trading area. As 2009 came to a close, Masoneilan, a major partner, afforded Eastern Controls the opportunity to represent them throughout the state of Virginia. January 1, 2010, saw the Virginia-Maryland operations get underway. The firm’s longtime relationships with O’Brien and Burling Regulators were further enhanced to include the Virginia Territory.
On September 1st, 2015, Eastern Controls was appointed the exclusive representative and authorized service provider for Endress+Hauser, one of the largest process management manufacturers. With the addition of Endress+Hauser, Eastern Controls gained the Process Training Unit® (PTU®). The PTU® features Endress+Hauser instrumentation and is controlled by Rockwell Automation’s PlantPAx system designed for the purpose of educating customer technicians, engineers, customers, and sales personnel. The PTU® was moved into Eastern Controls’ Edgemont, PA facility in February of 2016.
Since the addition of the PTU®, Eastern Controls has continued to modify the equipment and technologies featured on the mini process plant. There was an overhaul of transferred equipment in 2019 and again in 2022 which included the addition of a new valve line from Flo-Tite, upgraded technologies and replacements for obsolete instruments from Endress+Hauser, such as their Liquiphant FTL51B and upgraded Memosens pH probe technology. The addition of our Thermal Division prompted the creation of a corner of our PTU to be dedicated to the technology and innovation behind nVent RAYCHEM and O’Brien insulated tubing bundles and enclosures. This included the installation of functional electrical heat trace cabling and components on
In 2021, Eastern Controls reinvigorated and reinvested in their Ashland, VA offices, production facility, and staff to accommodate greater capacity for their repair and maintenance services. This allows Eastern Controls to better serve the state of Virginia and surrounding areas.
With the expansion of capabilities out of Ashland, VA, ECI partners Baker Hughes Masoneilan and REXA, Inc. both expanded ECI’s coverage for their brands to include Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and part of Eastern Ohio. The decision came after years of successful partnerships and growth and adoption of their respective technologies, products, and solutions.
Another addition was made to Eastern Controls’ service calibration capabilities, with the installation of a premier laboratory flow calibration unit. This gives Eastern Controls the ability to perform laboratory and on-site calibrations to accommodate any needs a customer may have due to time constraints or excessive amounts of instrumentation.
2022 was a big year for Eastern Controls, Inc. In February of 2022, they announced that their representation of Masoneilan and REXA, Inc. would expand to Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Later that year, Eastern Controls completed the purchase of Andrews Industrial Controls, based out of the Greater Pittsburgh region.
The acquisition of Andrews Industrial Controls uniquely positioned Eastern Controls to expand their territory coverage as well as expanded the scope of their product offering to include key instrumentation, control and isolation valves, actuation solutions, and safety equipment.
